The City of Conroe goes Smoke-Free

The Conroe City Council voted on Wednesday, September 9, to make their city smoke-free. The Breathe Free Conroe coalition, led by Chrissie West, thanked Mayor Webb Melder and City Council for their leadership in passing a strong and comprehensive smoking ordinance that will protect the residents and employees of Conroe from the dangerous of secondhand smoke.

5-19-09 Smoke-free bill dies, coalition vows to return
Smoke-Free Texas joined Sen. Rodney Ellis and Rep. Myra Crownover in a news conference today to announce that the smoke-free bill will not pass this session. Many important successes were logged this session, but obstacles could not be overcome. Coalition members immediately will begin working to pass smoke-free ordinances in more Texas cities and return to the Capitol next session to press for a statewide law. 5-14-09 WISCONSIN, NORTH CAROLINA GO SMOKE-FREE AS TEXAS DELAYS
Two more states yesterday passed smoke-free laws, spurring Smoke-Free Texas to renew its call as the legislative session enters its final days for Texas lawmakers to approve pending bills that would prevent secondhand smoke exposure in indoor workplaces, including bars and restaurants.
